BODY BALANCE - 100 caps (#7300)

Hormones are chemical substances produced in one part of an organism, that causes an effect in another part, thus serving as a means of communication and function. In human beings, hormones control such body activities as growth, development and reproduction. There are more than fifty hormones that have been identified. Most of them are produced by the endocrine glands which include the adrenals, the pituitary, the parathyroid glands, the sex glands and the thyroid gland. There are digestive hormones that control how the body uses food, insulin (which is a hormone) that governs sugar, hormones that control the composition of blood, and many more. They are extremely complex and regulate a variety of body functions. A principal rol is to maintain balance of the body's chemicals and fluids.

Our bodies have an incredible instinct for balance but many things we do can affect this balance. The foods we choose to eat, the amount of exercise we get, environmental toxins we ingest or are exposed to, the way we react to stressful situations, all of these can have a profound effect on our health.

There are many industrial and agricultural uses for synthetic hormones, which are then passed on to us through the usage of these products. None of these uses are designed to make a healthier product for our benefit. They are, instead, designed to increase production, and profit, of livestock and plants.

Xenobiotics, or xenoestrogens, refer to environmental compounds (usually petrochemical) that generally have very potent estrogen-like activity. They thus have a profound impact on hormone balance, and can be considered very toxic. They are found in literally thousands, maybe millions, of products that we use everyday. These products include plastics, microchips, medicines, foods, soaps, clothing, pesticides, herbicides, cleaners, etc., etc. A truly frightening aspect of this exposure is that their effect may not show up until the next generation and then may cause reproductive abnormalities." says John R. Lee, M.D.

DES (diethylstilbestrol) , a type of synthetic estrogen, was the first hormone used by the meat industry to fatten up livestock. Then it was discovered that is causes cancer even in extremely minute amounts. Meanwhile it was also being used in birth control pills and as a hormone that was supposed to guard against miscarriage. Women were told that it was safe, then later, hundreds of thousands of women discovered that is caused cancer in their children.

Thanks to the testing done by a wide array of scientists, we know beyond a doubt that xenobiotics are threatening the survival of many birds, reptiles and mammals in North America.

There is mounting evidence that exposure to xenoestrogens may be a significant cause of breast cancer, the decline in male sperm production, testicular cancer, prostate cancer and other serious health conditions.

Sperm counts have dropped by more than 50 percent since 1940. The rate of testicular cancer in the U.S. and Europe has more than tripled in the last 50 years and reproductive abnormalities have become increasingly common. These conditions began at the same time that "better living through chemistry" became the slogan of big business in America and Europe and we began being carelessly exposed to petrochemical pollutants.

John R. Lee, M.D. reports "Our main source of xenoestrogens in food is from animal fats, particularly red meat and dairy products. These Animals are given estrogenic substances to make them gain weight and they also are exposed from eating grains that have been sprayed with pesticides and these substances accumulate in their fat. Anyone who eats meat and dairy products is eating these compounds and they are all potent, synthetic estrogens. They accumulate in our fatty tissues (breast, brain and liver) and cause estrogen dominance, with all of its attendant symptoms.

As if all those synthetic estrogens were not enough, millions of women are put on synthetic hormone treatment (HRT). Turning menopausal symptoms into a disease of estrogen deficiency has resulted in HRTs being one of the major prescription drugs. The odds are that if an American woman of menopausal age complains to her doctor of any symptom, she will receive a prescription for HRT. Any symptom that persists is considered cause for tranquilizer or a referral to psychiatrist.

All synthetic estrogens are slow to be metabolized and excreted. The longer a synthetic estrogen stays in the body, the more opportunity it has to do damage. With all the information that is available, you would think that in all causes of estrogen supplementation, the natural hormones would be superior. But again, the bottom line is that a whole plant cannot be patented.

WISDOM 2000's BODY BALANCE has been designed to balance the hormones and glandular systems of both men and women. Progesterone is vital to good health in both women and men, as it is the primary precursor of the adrenal cortical hormones and testosterone. As the different systems of our bodies are created to work together, so too are the herbs we were given to protect our health.

Chemicals may seem to alleviate a symptom, but almost always cause adverse effects somewhere in the body, and often in the liver. The liver plays a major role in hormone balance. Often referred to as the master detoxifier, the liver is also responsible for removing toxic substances from our bloodstream. Toxins produced as a result of our own metabolism and those absorbed from the environment are successfully removed from the bloodstream by a well-functioning liver. The herbs that are in this combination, balance and normalize the functions of the endocrine glands and regulate the activity of the hormones. Most are also prime liver herbs, since much of the activity of hormonal production is dependent on the health of the liver.
